Mother’s Day gift ideas for wine-lovers from Bordeaux

Don’t panic (too much) if you haven’t bought your Mum a present yet. We’ve put together a last minute gift guide that’s bound to impress – rather than flowers we recommend a bouquet of Bordeaux wines this year!

All wines in our Mother’s Day selection are from the here for similar styles.

For Mums who always make a beeline to the canapés to enjoy nibbles with their wine (who doesn’t!) why not include a fruity and supple red in your Bordeaux Bouquet. Wines of this flavour profile often have a violet, blackcurrant or red berry aroma with expressive fruit flavours, perfect with salty snacks. Try Laithwaite’s 100% here for more examples of supple and fruity reds.

For passionate Mums who like their wine bold and serious you should add a deeper shade of Bordeaux red to your Bouquet. Round and structured red Bordeaux tends to be much more intense with notable aromatic richness and round, smooth tannin. Try the here for more wines in this style.

For floral-loving Mums who like nothing better than an afternoon pottering in the garden, discover the fresh and fruity rosés Bordeaux produces. These wines are a clear pink colour so will add colour to your Bouquet and they taste wonderfully refreshing with delicate aromas of strawberries, red currant and grapefruit. Sainsbury’s offers a fine example in its here.

Finally for sweet-toothed Mums who enjoy a bit of elegance at the dinner table, add a sweet finishing touch to your Bordeaux Bouquet. Try luscious and intense sweet Bordeaux wines which are elegantly golden in colour, with aromatic depth on the nose, and have a unique richness which makes them brilliant with food. The appellations in Bordeaux producing wines in this style tend to be Barsac, Cérons, Sauternes, Cadillac, Loupiac and Sainte-Croix-du-Mont.

Waitrose sells Sauternes Château Suduiraut in half bottles for £12.79 which is a beautiful treat of a wine with aromas of orange marmalade and coconut. A blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, it will pair perfectly with Roquefort in a cheese course or pecan pie!  For more similar sweet wines click here.

Happy Mother’s Day all, say it with a Bouquet of Bordeaux!
