The Terroirs

The terroir situation around Libourne includes the AOC's from the Dordogne's Right Bank. The soil here is clay-limestone, with bands of pure porous limestone, and receives good sunshine. Both Merlot and Cabernet-Sauvignon find their favourite growing conditions here. On certain Appellations, Merlot can constitute 80% of the planted surface area due to its excellence. Some prestigious domains are even classified and evaluated like works of art. The concentration and elegance of the wines produced here are as impressive as is their velvety power. Definitely the best Merlots in the world and typical of this terroir.
