Bordeaux Wines return to Liverpool Friday 31st May – Sunday 2nd June 2019

Love wine? Want to learn more? Then head down to Liverpool’s iconic waterfront from Friday 31st May to Monday 2nd June, where the City of Liverpool and Bordeaux Great Events have joined forces for a second year to present the Bordeaux Wine Festival. This award-winning event will give you the perfect opportunity to discover the breadth of wine styles coming from Bordeaux, as well as meet the people behind the wines.

Aromatic dry whites, fruity rosés and sparkling Crémant wines will be available to try alongside offerings from some of the region’s best-known appellations including Médoc, Saint-Emilion-Pomerol-Fronsac, Graves-Sauternes, Côtes de Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur and Sweet Bordeaux in seven pavilions.

An eighth pavilion will feature a selection of ‘Everyday Bordeaux’ wines. These wines were tasted blind by a UK panel of judges made up of a mix of Bordeaux wine educators, journalists, Masters of Wine and Bordeaux retail buyers. All priced between £6-£20 and available to purchase in the UK, these wines are truly representative of their region or appellation of Bordeaux.

Winemakers and négociants will be on hand to share their passion for winemaking and explain how they create their wines, while specialist Bordeaux wine tutors from the world-famous École du Vin de Bordeaux will be hosting fun, free masterclasses and tastings throughout the three days covering topics such as Bonjour Bordeaux: An Introduction to Bordeaux, Discover Sauvignon Blends from Bordeaux to more general sessions such as Wine and its Aromas (a full schedule is included overleaf). The Bordeaux wine school workshops are a fun and unusual way

to discover the wines and learn from those closest to them.

Once you have sampled the wines and met the people behind the labels you will want to visit the magnificent city for yourself, and travelling to Bordeaux could not be easier, with direct routes from Liverpool John Lennon Airport. To find out more, and maybe make plans for a trip, drop into the Tourism pavilion to meet the Office de Tourisme et des Congrès de Bordeaux Métropole, Gironde Tourism and Médoc Atlantique.

The Bordeaux Wine Festival Liverpool will also play host to the final of the inaugural Bordeaux UK Sommelier Challenge, a quest to find the UK’s most Bordeaux knowledgeable sommelier. Open to sommeliers across the UK, entrants will complete a series of wine-based challenges, ranging from blind tastings, food and wine matching and general knowledge of Bordeaux wines. The live semi-finals will be held on Liverpool’s iconic waterfront during May, with the Final taking place at the Bordeaux Wine Festival on 2nd June. The winner will be unveiled at Paul Askew’s award-winning restaurant, The Art School, that evening.
