History
of the estate
Château Lamothe is an historic property on a plateau overlooking the village of Sauternes, featuring a 16th-century building with rounded corner towers. Originally, the “Lamothe” estate was split in the 19th century into several properties (Lamothe, Lamothe-Guignard, Lamothe-Despujols) that share a common history. The Lamothe-Despujols estate, for example, covers around 7.48 hectares with vines about 40 years old (and some older). The terroir is a mix of limestone, sand, gravel and clay, with south-west exposure that favours ripening and the development of noble rot (Botrytis).
