Bringing our
our region to life
We live and work alongside our neighbours, in close dialogue with local communities and with the city of Bordeaux itself. Seeing wildlife and plant life return to our vineyards is a powerful sign that our region is alive, thriving and moving in the right direction.
Preserving a vibrant rural landscape
With 103,200 hectares in 2023 spread across the Gironde, Bordeaux is France’s largest AOC vineyard. It is also one of the oldest, with more than 2,000 years of shared history between its wines and the city that bears their name.
Our landscapes and local economy are deeply shaped by the work of winegrowers and merchants. Yet Bordeaux viticulture faces challenges common to rural areas everywhere: living alongside residents, ensuring agriculture has a voice in political decision‑making, and coping with the concentration of activity around urban centres.
That is why we are committed to shining a light on our winegrowers and merchants. These artisans safeguard a unique heritage of production and trade, firmly rooted in our region. More broadly, we seek to preserve:
- Our terroir : a concept that brings together soils, climate and people, and underpins the quality of our wines;
- A strong rural social and economic fabric, working in harmony with the strengths of the Bordeaux metropolitan area.
United by shared values, the women and men of the Bordeaux wine sector are deeply committed to caring for their region with passion and purpose.
Our key objectives :
- Foster local job creation, including in rural areas;
- Build harmonious relationships with local residents, particularly for estates on the edge of urban zones;
- Encourage responsible sourcing and purchasing policies with local suppliers.
On the
ground
- 2,000 years of history and expertise shaping more than 103,000 hectares of vineyard;
- Estates averaging 21 hectares in size;
- One UNESCO World Heritage site: Saint‑Émilion.
Objective: to build a collective, supportive and engaged movement that promotes local consumption.
- Initiative launched in 2020;
- Bringing together many sectors that drive the economy and reputation of the Bordeaux region.
